I had to revisit part one.

In the opening scene, a young man rides up a large house on a red scooter to deliver the groceries.
Finding no one around in the large two story house, he continues to walk around exploring. Sure. That’s fine, walk around the house, delivery guy.
As he wanders through the house and up the stairs, the scenery is full of interesting paintings hung on the walls.

He keeps wandering into the house, up the stairs. Amazing, large beautiful wooden furniture is shown in the bedroom as the delivery boy wanders into an elderly ladies’ room to find her hanging from the ceiling. an apparent suicide.
He runs out, and the scene does a crossfade that hints at telling you that time has passed.
Arrivi lng at the house, Roger, the nephew of the elderly lady from the opening scene (played by William Katt)
Random memory from kindergarten here. I had such a crush on William Katt when he was on The Great American Hero.

I’m so impressed by the representation of 80’s style. Skinny ties and jackets with the sleeves pulled up to the elbow.
Dude throws a whole tv dinner, box and all in the microwave and sets it for 30 minutes. That’s gonna burn
Then, he walks into the room where his computer is.. as he was to be writing a new book.. this time about his experiences in Vietnam.
The computer is huge!! The full on home computer of the 80’s in tan cinderblock and green glowing stencil letters.
Backstory time
Roger and his wife talk on the phone. His son was missing, presumed dead. Roger is still intent on finding his son, as he never believed he was dead.
Flashback time…
Jimmi is Roger’s son. They are outside, at house. Roger is cutting hedges, and he notices the boy is missing after looking away for specifically, 2 seconds. He runs around looking all over for the boy and finally sees the boy splashing in the pool, appearing to be struggling pretty badly. Roger dives in and the kid is suddenly nowhere to be found. Gone.
End scene
Ok , so it’s the next day and he meets the neighbors. His neighbor right next door
Is Norm from Cheers. George Wendt

I remember part two has the mailman in it
Roger hurries back in to write and be alone.
A while later, apparently Roger is starting to see things…sees a boy as a hologram. The boy calls him, but the voice came from upstairs.. so he follows the sound upstairs.
Total 80s gear moment.

Extra low cut v neck sweater 80s look
Suddenly a giant slimy skeleton death creature bursts in the room through a door and he shoves it back in the room and locks the door up… but he stays at the house for the rest of the night.

The next day, a truck pulls up and makes a huge delivery. He sets up like a million cameras and ties a rope to the door handle. He pulls the rope and he starts some sort of evasive maneuvering all the way out of the room, down the stairs and finally, he runs out of the house where ‘Norm’ catches the final leap onto the front walk and they talk briefly before Roger sends his neighbor off again.

Roger Goes back and resets all his traps again. He stays this time, after pulling the rope tied to the closet door .. and nothing is there
He shuts off the lights and is walking along drinking a beer when the clock strikes midnight. Man, he jumps like he got poked with something and runs off. He want’s try the closet door again, (oh.. I get it now) but Norm comes over with Beer and Pizza where they talk about what he has been experiencing, and Norm is worried for him. Norm took Roger’s phone book on the sly and calls Roger’s wife, who is divorcing him.
She is a movie star, on set, and can’t go to him. She tries to call him, but he is writing, and in another flashback
Suddenly, The swordfish on the wall is flapping around.

Oh. It’s making noises.
A creepy dying mounted swordfish; with a pupil that follows every movement Roger makes, starts flopping about with its living dead, creepy eye following, stuck on a plank body.
There. All fixed.
But then… the garden tools are after him in the bathroom and Roger’s ex-wife, movie star shows up to catch him running around with his shotgun.
She turns into a big scary creature, so he blasts it with a shotgun. Suddenly… she’s her again and dead on the porch with a shotgun hole in her

Norm hears the shots and calls the cops
Roger hears the cop’s sirens approaching and carries her body inside
The cops know nothing about the body

The cops come through, have coffee, they finish and leave.
The body is gone.
Oh, wait… She’s back to being the giant hideous creature, and the garden tools are still trying to get in the room.

It works out though.
Later that night… ok..
Enough with the play by play.
Go watch this one to find out how it all actually goes down.
This classic horror is always a good revisit.
